Delhi To Leh Bike Transport Complete Details: Total Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
Leh is the high-altitude capital of Ladakh, and bikes go there with army, tourism and government families.
Plan on roughly 1,010 km and 4–6 days on the road. The quoted days start when the vehicle leaves Delhi; pickup usually takes a day before that, and delivery needs a time you agree with the driver. The route normally follows NH44 and NH3 through Ambala, Chandigarh, Mandi, Manali and the Atal Tunnel, or through Srinagar and Zoji La.
| Road distance | About 1,010 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 4–6 days |
| Express transit | 2–4 days |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹4,500 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Leh and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
The Manali and Srinagar roads to Leh are open only for part of the year, usually between late May and October, and snow, landslides and passes can close them even then. Plan the move for the summer and ask about the road status first.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Leh. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Dense fog between late December and January is the usual slowdown on this side of the country. Summers are hot but rarely change the schedule.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Transport my Bike from Delhi! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Leh
People usually ask which method is best, and the honest answer depends on distance, the bike, and how much you want to handle yourself.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
The crew comes to you, wraps the bike, ties it down inside a covered body, and delivers to your Leh address. A commuter bike runs about ₹4,500 to ₹6,150, with 4–6 days on the road. You only need to be present at pickup and at delivery. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
Possible, but slow. The bike goes by parcel train from a Delhi station, and you collect it at Leh. Packing is on you, the tank must be nearly empty, and transit depends on which trains run that week, so it can take longer than a carrier. If the parcel office at Leh cannot take two-wheelers, you are stuck, so ask first. See our train vs truck comparison.
3. Ride it yourself
1,010 km is 3 days of riding at a comfortable pace, and 2 nights on the road. Fuel is around ₹2,150 for a commuter bike (about ₹3,200 for a 350cc Royal Enfield). Toll is free for bikes, but hotels, food and a return ticket are not. It works if you want the trip. It does not work if you are in a hurry or the bike is new and still running in.

For most people moving house or job, the covered carrier is the one that makes sense. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Leh Bike Transport Complete Costs: Know What You’re Really Paying For
Prices below are what most customers pay on this route. They are ranges because the same cc can mean different weight and handling, and because carriers price by the week's load.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹4,100 – ₹5,450 | 4–6 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹4,500 – ₹6,150 | 4–6 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹5,350 – ₹7,500 | 4–6 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹8,500 – ₹11,900 | 4–6 days |
| Superbike (650cc+) | Quoted after we know the exact model | |
Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹5,300)
| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Leh) | ₹3,250 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹500 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹800 |
| Total | ₹5,300 |
Factors That Affect Bike Shipping Cost
- Transit insurance: 2.5% of the declared value, with a minimum of ₹300. On a bike valued at ₹70,000 that is about ₹1,750, plus GST.
- Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 2–4 days.
- Difficult access: if the truck cannot reach your gate, a smaller vehicle for the last stretch may cost extra. Tell us the address up front.
- Depot instead of door: if you can bring the bike to a hub or collect it from one, the ₹750 door charge and its GST drop off.
- Premium wrap: costs about ₹900 more for thicker padding and a frame around the bike. Sensible for a new or expensive machine.
What moves the final number on this route
- Distance. Each extra 100 km on this lane adds roughly ₹250 to a commuter bike's price. Delhi to Leh is about 1,010 km.
- Access at both ends. A basement bay, a lift-only lobby or a lane that a truck cannot enter means extra hands or a smaller vehicle, and extra cost.
- Condition of the bike. A bike that will not start needs more people to load. Say so when you ask for the quote.
- Season and demand. Prices move up around Diwali, Holi and the start of the academic year, when more people are shifting.
- Flexibility on dates. A pickup window of three to five days is cheaper than a fixed same-day demand.
- Packing grade and insurance value. Premium wrapping adds about ₹900, and insurance is 2.5% of the declared value, so a higher declared value costs more.
- Bike size and weight. At 1,010 km a scooter starts near ₹4,100, a commuter near ₹4,500, a Royal Enfield near ₹5,350 and a sports bike near ₹8,500. Heavier bikes take more space and strapping.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Transport from Delhi
A few minutes of checking can save you a lot. Here is what to confirm before paying anyone an advance.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Leh delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 1,010 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Keep the advance small. A booking amount is normal. Anyone who wants the full payment before the bike has even been picked up deserves suspicion.
- Read the insurance. Ask for the policy copy, what is covered (theft, accident, damage in loading), the excess, and who to call after a problem.
- Verify who you are paying. A genuine company will give you a GST number, a registered address and an office phone. Check them, and read the Google reviews.
- Pay into a business account and take an invoice. A transfer to someone's personal number with no bill leaves you with nothing to show later.
- Get a driver or coordinator number. You should be able to reach a real person while the bike is moving.
- Plan the Leh delivery. The roads open only in the warm months, and cargo vehicles may not run at all in winter.
List of Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Leh (And When NOC Matters)
The carrier needs only a few papers to accept the bike. The heavier paperwork comes later, when you register in Ladakh.
- RC (registration certificate): a copy goes with the bike, and the original stays with you.
- Contact details: a phone number and landmark for both Delhi and Leh.
- Letter of authority: needed when a relative or friend hands over or receives the bike, with their ID attached.
- Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
- Finance NOC: if the bike is on a loan (hypothecation), a letter from the bank or NBFC allowing the move.
- Insurance copy: the current policy, not an expired one. Third-party cover is the minimum.
When NOC matters
Moving a bike to another state does not need an NOC for the transport itself. It matters when you want to re-register the bike in Ladakh. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a registration from another state stays valid for twelve months, and after that you must apply for a new registration number. The Delhi transport office issues the NOC for that, and if the bike is financed, the lender has to clear it first.
A bike staying in Ladakh past twelve months must be registered there. Ask the Delhi office for the NOC before you leave, because it is easier to get while you are still in the city.
One more point. If you qualify for the BH (Bharat) series, you do not need to re-register when you move states. Also check the current rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR with the transport department, because they have changed more than once. Know the Complete Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Leh: Pickup To Delivery
This is how a normal booking runs. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Send your details. The form above takes a minute. We need the bike model, whether it starts, and the two addresses: one in Faridabad Sector 15 or elsewhere in Delhi NCR, one in Leh.
- Confirm the booking. Check the days and the price, then pay the booking amount. Keep the receipt; you will need it at delivery.
- Clear the bike. Remove the helmet lock gadgets, mirrors-mounted cameras and luggage. Keep one key and the RC with you.
- Pickup in Delhi NCR. The crew inspects the bike with you, photographs it, wraps and straps it, and gives you a signed condition sheet.
- On the road. The carrier follows NH44 and NH3. Ask for a call at the main halts; that is normal on a 1,010 km run.
- Be reachable. The driver rings ahead. Have the gate pass or society permission ready so the vehicle is not turned away.
- Inspect and close. Match the bike to the pickup photos, start it, and note any damage on the paper before you sign and pay.
In Leh we usually deliver to Main Bazaar, Changspa, Choglamsar, Sankar, Skara and Old Road. The roads open only in the warm months, and cargo vehicles may not run at all in winter.

Common Mistakes That People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Booking too late. Last-minute bookings get whatever vehicle is free, often at a higher rate. Book three to five days ahead on this route.
- Trusting a verbal promise. If the days or the price are not on paper, they are not a promise.
- Skipping the photos. Without pickup photos, a damage claim becomes your word against theirs.
- A mistake specific to Leh. Fixing a hard delivery date. On a 1,010 km route a day's delay is normal, so give a window instead.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Main Bazaar, Changspa, Choglamsar, Sankar, Skara and Old Road. The roads open only in the warm months, and cargo vehicles may not run at all in winter.
