Delhi To Kanpur Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
IIT Kanpur students and faculty, leather and textile traders, and railway employees are the usual customers on this route to Kanpur.
The road distance is roughly 490 km, and most bikes arrive in 3–4 days from pickup. That is quick enough that people often ask whether they should ride instead; the section below compares both honestly. The route normally follows the Yamuna Expressway to Agra, then Etawah and the Kanpur highway.
| Road distance | About 490 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 3–4 days |
| Express transit | 1–2 days |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹3,100 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Kanpur and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
Traffic around Kanpur's outer ring and the GT Road section is slow on market days. Most delays here are on the last 30 km, not the highway.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Kanpur. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Winter fog on the Uttar Pradesh stretch and monsoon flooding between July and September are the two seasons that stretch delivery dates.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Kanpur
There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
The crew comes to you, wraps the bike, ties it down inside a covered body, and delivers to your Kanpur address. A commuter bike runs about ₹3,100 to ₹4,250, with 3–4 days on the road. You only need to be present at pickup and at delivery. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
Indian Railways does carry two-wheelers as parcel. You book at the parcel office, the bike is packed (the tank must be nearly empty), and it travels station to station. You then collect it from Kanpur yourself, and get it home. At 490 km the saving over a carrier is small and the handling is rougher. Our train vs truck comparison goes through it in detail.
3. Ride it yourself
About 490 km takes 2 days on a bike. Fuel at roughly 45 km a litre and ₹95 a litre comes to about ₹1,050. Two-wheelers are exempt from toll, which helps. You also have to get yourself back home or onward after riding one way, which people forget while comparing prices.

If you have time and a healthy bike, riding is cheapest. If you are travelling with luggage, family or on a train, the carrier is the easier option. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Kanpur Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For
Prices below are what most customers pay on this route. They are ranges because the same cc can mean different weight and handling, and because carriers price by the week's load.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹2,850 – ₹3,750 | 3–4 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹3,100 – ₹4,250 | 3–4 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹3,700 – ₹5,200 | 3–4 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹5,900 – ₹8,250 | 3–4 days |
| Superbike (650cc+) | Quoted after we know the exact model | |
Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹3,700)
| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Kanpur) | ₹2,050 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹350 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹550 |
| Total | ₹3,700 |
What can push the price up or down
- Transit insurance: optional cover at 2.5% of what you declare, never below ₹300. Declare ₹1,00,000 and it comes to about ₹2,500 plus GST.
- Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 1–2 days.
- Premium wrap: costs about ₹900 more for thicker padding and a frame around the bike. Sensible for a new or expensive machine.
- Depot instead of door: if you can bring the bike to a hub or collect it from one, the ₹750 door charge and its GST drop off.
- Difficult access: if the truck cannot reach your gate, a smaller vehicle for the last stretch may cost extra. Tell us the address up front.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi
A few minutes of checking can save you a lot. Here is what to confirm before paying anyone an advance.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Kanpur delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 490 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
- Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
- Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
- Look at the insurance papers. Find out what is covered (theft, accident, loading damage), what you pay first, and whom to call if something goes wrong.
- Do a pickup inspection. Photos or a video of the bike from all sides, with the odometer reading, and a signed condition sheet.
- Plan the Kanpur delivery. Kakadeo's coaching areas get packed in the evening, so morning delivery is easier for the driver.
Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Kanpur (And When NOC Matters)
To hand over the bike you need very little. The real paperwork starts after delivery, if you plan to register the bike in Uttar Pradesh.
- RC (registration certificate): a copy goes with the bike, and the original stays with you.
- Loan papers: if the RC shows hypothecation, carry the lender's consent letter for the move.
- Letter of authority: needed when a relative or friend hands over or receives the bike, with their ID attached.
- ID proof: Aadhaar, driving licence or passport of the owner.
- Addresses and phone numbers: a working contact and a landmark at the Delhi end and at the Kanpur end.
- Insurance copy: the current policy, not an expired one. Third-party cover is the minimum.
When NOC matters
You do not need an NOC to put a bike on a carrier. You need it when the bike has to be registered in Uttar Pradesh. A registration from another state is valid for twelve months under the Motor Vehicles Act, and then a new number must be taken. The NOC comes from the Delhi transport office, and if a loan is running, the bank has to release its hold first.
Kanpur Nagar has its own RTO (UP-78 series); registration needs your Delhi NOC plus a Kanpur address proof.
Two extra notes: owners who qualify for the BH series can skip re-registration altogether, and the rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR keep changing, so it is worth confirming where your bike stands before you pay anyone. For a full list, see our documents required for bike transport article.
Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Kanpur: Pickup To Delivery
Most bookings follow these seven steps. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Send your details. The form above takes a minute. We need the bike model, whether it starts, and the two addresses: one in Noida Sector 62 or elsewhere in Delhi NCR, one in Kanpur.
- Read the quote. For 490 km it should show the total with GST, about 3–4 days on the road, and what is included. A commuter bike on this route starts near ₹3,100.
- Prepare the bike. Drain the tank to about a litre, remove accessories and clean it so scratches show up in the photos.
- Pickup in Delhi NCR. The crew inspects the bike with you, photographs it, wraps and straps it, and gives you a signed condition sheet.
- On the road. The carrier follows the Yamuna Expressway to Agra. Ask for a call at the main halts; that is normal on a 490 km run.
- Delivery slot. The driver calls before arrival. Share the exact address, gate and a person who can sign.
- Inspect and close. Match the bike to the pickup photos, start it, and note any damage on the paper before you sign and pay.
In Kanpur we usually deliver to Swaroop Nagar, Kakadeo, Kidwai Nagar, Civil Lines, Panki and Govind Nagar. Kakadeo's coaching areas get packed in the evening, so morning delivery is easier for the driver.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Trusting a verbal promise. If the days or the price are not on paper, they are not a promise.
- Not checking who signs. Whoever signs at delivery accepts the bike as is, so have the right person there.
- Leaving a full tank. Carriers can refuse a bike with lots of fuel. Keep about a litre.
- A mistake specific to Kanpur. Giving only 'near IIT' as an address. Kanpur has several gates and roads around the campus, so share an exact landmark or society name.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Swaroop Nagar, Kakadeo, Kidwai Nagar, Civil Lines, Panki and Govind Nagar. Kakadeo's coaching areas get packed in the evening, so morning delivery is easier for the driver.
