Delhi To Salem Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
Steel, sago, textiles and mango trade shape Salem. People moving from Delhi for the steel plant or the nearby colleges are among those shipping a bike.
This is a long one: about 2,270 km and 7–9 days on the road. Anyone who quotes you less than a week for a haul this size should be asked, politely, how they plan to do it. The route normally follows NH44 through Nagpur, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, then Krishnagiri to Salem.
| Road distance | About 2,270 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 7–9 days |
| Express transit | 4–6 days |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹6,600 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Salem and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
Salem sits on the Bengaluru to Madurai highway, so heavy truck traffic on the last 200 km can slow a vehicle by a few hours.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Salem. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Rain on the west side from June to September and the north-east monsoon on the east coast from October to December slow trucks. Winter fog affects only the first day out of Delhi.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Salem
There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
This is the usual choice. The bike is packed at your door, travels in a closed vehicle and is brought to your Salem address. Budget ₹6,600 to ₹9,050 for a commuter bike and 7–9 days of transit, and keep your phone on during the trip. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
On this distance, parcel trains involve more than one connection, and a bike left at a transfer station gets damaged more often than one on a single carrier. If you do try it, book a direct service where possible, and ask the parcel office at Salem whether they take two-wheelers. More on that in our train vs truck guide.
3. Ride it yourself
2,270 km means 6 days of riding and 5 hotel nights. Fuel alone is about ₹4,800 for a commuter and about ₹7,200 for a 350cc bike. It is a real trip, not a relocation tool, and a long ride ages tyres, chain and brakes. Few people do it for a house move.

At this distance, a covered carrier is the only practical way to move the bike, unless you want an adventure. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Salem Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For
No one should pay for a Delhi to Salem bike move without seeing the full breakup, so here it is.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹6,100 – ₹8,050 | 7–9 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹6,600 – ₹9,050 | 7–9 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹7,950 – ₹11,100 | 7–9 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹12,600 – ₹17,600 | 7–9 days |
| Superbike (650cc+) | Quoted after we know the exact model | |
Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹7,800)
| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Salem) | ₹5,050 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹800 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹1,200 |
| Total | ₹7,800 |
What can change the final figure
- Transit insurance: 2.5% of the declared value, with a minimum of ₹300. On a bike valued at ₹80,000 that is about ₹2,000, plus GST.
- Express delivery: adds about 25% to the transport portion and brings the time down to 4–6 days.
- Premium wrap: costs about ₹900 more for thicker padding and a frame around the bike. Sensible for a new or expensive machine.
- Depot instead of door: if you collect from or drop at a transport hub, you save about ₹750 plus GST.
- Difficult access: if the truck cannot reach your gate, a smaller vehicle for the last stretch may cost extra. Tell us the address up front.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi
Before any money moves for a Delhi to Salem booking, go through these points. They apply to every company, including us.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Salem delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 2,270 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
- Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
- Look at the insurance papers. Find out what is covered (theft, accident, loading damage), what you pay first, and whom to call if something goes wrong.
- Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
- Check the company is real. Ask for the GST number, the registered office address and a landline or office you can visit or video call. Search the name with reviews.
- Plan the Salem delivery. Salem has narrow market lanes around Shevapet and Gugai, so give a landmark and ask the driver to call from the main road.
Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Salem (And When NOC Matters)
The carrier needs only a few papers to accept the bike. The heavier paperwork comes later, when you register in Tamil Nadu.
- RC book or smart card: hand over a photocopy and keep the original yourself.
- Insurance copy: the current policy, not an expired one. Third-party cover is the minimum.
- Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
- Loan papers: if the RC shows hypothecation, carry the lender's consent letter for the move.
- Contact details: a phone number and landmark for both Delhi and Salem.
- Letter of authority: needed when a relative or friend hands over or receives the bike, with their ID attached.
When NOC matters
Moving a bike to another state does not need an NOC for the transport itself. It matters when you want to re-register the bike in Tamil Nadu. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a registration from another state stays valid for twelve months, and after that you must apply for a new registration number. The Delhi transport office issues the NOC for that, and if the bike is financed, the lender has to clear it first.
Salem has RTOs for the central and the west of the city, and the right one depends on your address. Carry the Delhi NOC and address proof.
Keep two things in mind. A BH (Bharat) series plate does not need re-registration after a state change, if you are eligible for one. And rules for older vehicles in Delhi–NCR have shifted over the years, so confirm the current position for your bike's age before you book. Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Salem: Pickup To Delivery
Most bookings follow these seven steps. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Ask for a quote. Fill the form at the top of this page or call +91 96713 11891. Share the bike model, pickup area and the Salem address.
- Confirm the booking. Check the days and the price, then pay the booking amount. Keep the receipt; you will need it at delivery.
- Prepare the bike. Drain the tank to about a litre, remove accessories and clean it so scratches show up in the photos.
- Pickup in Delhi NCR. The crew inspects the bike with you, photographs it, wraps and straps it, and gives you a signed condition sheet.
- On the road. The carrier follows NH44. Ask for a call at the main halts; that is normal on a 2,270 km run.
- Fix the delivery time. If you are in Fairlands or Hasthampatti, tell the driver the society name and gate number, and who will be there.
- Check, sign and pay the balance. Compare the bike against your pickup photos before signing. Write any scratch on the delivery sheet at the time.
In Salem we usually deliver to Fairlands, Hasthampatti, Alagapuram, Ammapet, Shevapet and Suramangalam. Salem has narrow market lanes around Shevapet and Gugai, so give a landmark and ask the driver to call from the main road.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Ignoring the weather. Rain on the west side from June to September and the north-east monsoon on the east coast from October to December slow trucks. Winter fog affects only the first day out of Delhi. Ask for a flexible window.
- Choosing only on price. A quote far below the others usually means a shared, transfer-heavy journey or missing insurance.
- Leaving a full tank. Carriers can refuse a bike with lots of fuel. Keep about a litre.
- A mistake specific to Salem. Not telling the driver that the address is on a hill road such as the Yercaud side. A smaller vehicle may be needed.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Fairlands, Hasthampatti, Alagapuram, Ammapet, Shevapet and Suramangalam. Salem has narrow market lanes around Shevapet and Gugai, so give a landmark and ask the driver to call from the main road.
