Delhi To Pune Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies

Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta pull in a lot of engineers from Delhi NCR, and the Army and defence postings in Pune add more. The route behaves much like Delhi to Mumbai, with the extra 150 km at the end.

Plan on roughly 1,460 km and 5–7 days on the road. The quoted days start when the vehicle leaves Delhi; pickup usually takes a day before that, and delivery needs a time you agree with the driver. The route normally follows NH48 through Rajasthan and Gujarat, then Maharashtra, finishing on the Mumbai–Pune route.

Road distanceAbout 1,460 km
Standard transit5–7 days
Express transit2–4 days

Why the timing changes

The Mumbai–Pune section and the ghat roads near Lonavala slow trucks in rain, and Pune restricts heavy vehicles inside the city for most of the day.

Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:

  • How often carriers leave for Pune. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
  • Season. June to September is the slow season for ghat and coastal sections. Winter is generally smooth, apart from morning fog out of Delhi.
  • Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
  • Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.

How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Pune

People usually ask which method is best, and the honest answer depends on distance, the bike, and how much you want to handle yourself.

1. Door-to-door by covered carrier

This is the usual choice. The bike is packed at your door, travels in a closed vehicle and is brought to your Pune address. Budget ₹5,600 to ₹7,650 for a commuter bike and 5–7 days of transit, and keep your phone on during the trip. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.

2. Railway parcel

Possible, but slow. The bike goes by parcel train from a Delhi station, and you collect it at Pune. Packing is on you, the tank must be nearly empty, and transit depends on which trains run that week, so it can take longer than a carrier. If the parcel office at Pune cannot take two-wheelers, you are stuck, so ask first. See our train vs truck comparison.

3. Ride it yourself

1,460 km is 4 days of riding at a comfortable pace, and 3 nights on the road. Fuel is around ₹3,100 for a commuter bike (about ₹4,600 for a 350cc Royal Enfield). Toll is free for bikes, but hotels, food and a return ticket are not. It works if you want the trip. It does not work if you are in a hurry or the bike is new and still running in.

Delhi To Pune Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For

No one should pay for a Delhi to Pune bike move without seeing the full breakup, so here it is.

Bike typePrice range (incl. GST)Delivery
Scooter / moped (up to 125cc)₹5,150 – ₹6,8005–7 days
Commuter bike (100–160cc)₹5,600 – ₹7,6505–7 days
Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc)₹6,700 – ₹9,3505–7 days
Sports bike (300cc+)₹10,600 – ₹14,8505–7 days
Superbike (650cc+)Quoted after we know the exact model

Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹6,600)

ItemApprox. amount
Line-haul freight (Delhi to Pune)₹4,150
Loading, strapping and standard wrap₹700
Door pickup and door delivery₹750
GST at 18%₹1,000
Total₹6,600

What can change the final figure

  • Transit insurance: 2.5% of the declared value, with a minimum of ₹300. On a bike valued at ₹1,20,000 that is about ₹3,000, plus GST.
  • Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 2–4 days.
  • Difficult access: if the truck cannot reach your gate, a smaller vehicle for the last stretch may cost extra. Tell us the address up front.
  • Waiting time: a driver held up for hours at either end may bill for the wait. Ask what the rule is before you book.
  • Depot instead of door: if you can bring the bike to a hub or collect it from one, the ₹750 door charge and its GST drop off.

The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi

Before any money moves for a Delhi to Pune booking, go through these points. They apply to every company, including us.

  • Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Pune delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
  • Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 1,460 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
  • Pay into a business account and take an invoice. A transfer to someone's personal number with no bill leaves you with nothing to show later.
  • Keep the advance small. A booking amount is normal. Anyone who wants the full payment before the bike has even been picked up deserves suspicion.
  • Inspect at pickup. Shoot photos or a short video of every side of the bike, note the odometer, and get a condition sheet signed by the crew.
  • Verify who you are paying. A genuine company will give you a GST number, a registered address and an office phone. Check them, and read the Google reviews.
  • Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
  • Plan the Pune delivery. Hinjewadi has long evening jams, so a delivery slot before noon works better.

Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Pune (And When NOC Matters)

Crew at pickup will ask for a short set of documents. Registration in Maharashtra is a separate job that you do after the bike arrives.

  • RC (registration certificate): a copy goes with the bike, and the original stays with you.
  • Letter of authority: needed when a relative or friend hands over or receives the bike, with their ID attached.
  • ID proof: Aadhaar, driving licence or passport of the owner.
  • Finance NOC: if the bike is on a loan (hypothecation), a letter from the bank or NBFC allowing the move.
  • Addresses and phone numbers: a working contact and a landmark at the Delhi end and at the Pune end.
  • Insurance copy: the current policy, not an expired one. Third-party cover is the minimum.

When NOC matters

Moving a bike to another state does not need an NOC for the transport itself. It matters when you want to re-register the bike in Maharashtra. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a registration from another state stays valid for twelve months, and after that you must apply for a new registration number. The Delhi transport office issues the NOC for that, and if the bike is financed, the lender has to clear it first.

Pune has RTO offices at Sangam Bridge (MH-12) and Pimpri-Chinchwad (MH-14); the one you register with depends on your address.

Two extra notes: owners who qualify for the BH series can skip re-registration altogether, and the rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR keep changing, so it is worth confirming where your bike stands before you pay anyone. For a full list, see our documents required for bike transport article.

Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Pune: Pickup To Delivery

Here is the sequence on a typical booking. Our how it works page has more detail.

  1. Send your details. The form above takes a minute. We need the bike model, whether it starts, and the two addresses: one in Mayur Vihar or elsewhere in Delhi NCR, one in Pune.
  2. Read the quote. For 1,460 km it should show the total with GST, about 5–7 days on the road, and what is included. A commuter bike on this route starts near ₹5,600.
  3. Get the bike ready. Leave about a litre of petrol, take off bags and phone mounts, and wash it so existing marks are clear. June to September is the slow season for ghat and coastal sections. Winter is generally smooth, apart from morning fog out of Delhi.
  4. Pickup in Delhi NCR. The crew inspects the bike with you, photographs it, wraps and straps it, and gives you a signed condition sheet.
  5. Transit to Pune. Expect about 5–7 days on the road. You get the driver or coordinator number for updates.
  6. Delivery slot. The driver calls before arrival. Share the exact address, gate and a person who can sign.
  7. Inspect and close. Match the bike to the pickup photos, start it, and note any damage on the paper before you sign and pay.

In Pune we usually deliver to Hinjewadi, Baner, Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Hadapsar and Kothrud. Hinjewadi has long evening jams, so a delivery slot before noon works better.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)

  • Booking too late. Last-minute bookings get whatever vehicle is free, often at a higher rate. Book three to five days ahead on this route.
  • Ignoring the weather. June to September is the slow season for ghat and coastal sections. Winter is generally smooth, apart from morning fog out of Delhi. Ask for a flexible window.
  • Forgetting the second key. Hand over only one, and keep the other with you.
  • A mistake specific to Pune. Assuming Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are the same drop. They are separate RTO areas and separate delivery routes, so say clearly which side of the city you live on.
  • Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Hinjewadi, Baner, Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Hadapsar and Kothrud. Hinjewadi has long evening jams, so a delivery slot before noon works better.
